Michael Fernandez DDS

Miguel Fernandez DDSDr. Fernandez is a native of North Carolina and graduated from Duke University in 1994 and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 2000. After completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program with the Navy, he served for three years onboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). Upon leaving the Navy in 2004, Dr. Fernandez assumed the practice of a retiring dentist and has modernized the facilities and equipment. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Fernandez is a Fellow of the Virginia Dental Association and is past President of the Tidewater Dental Association. He is also a member of several local study clubs and a past member of the Young Alumni Council at the dental school. Dr. Fernandez was awarded the New Dentist Award by the Virginia Dental Association in 2007 and was named a "Top Dentist" in Virginia Living Magazine voted on by his peers in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Dr. Fernandez lives in Virginia Beach with his wife and three children. Together they enjoy the beach, boating, and spending time together.

Daniel Cox DDS

Daniel Cox (Dan) is a third generation dentist and is Dr. Fernandez’ father-in-law. Dr. Cox graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1970. After graduation he taught part time at the dental school and went into private practice with his father in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  After his father’s retirement, with the help of his wife, Patty, he ran a busy single dentist practice for 44 years. During his years in Michigan, Dr. Cox was active in numerous community organizations and his church. In addition he served as President of the Washtenaw District Dental Society, Secretary and Trustee of the Michigan Dental Association and Delegate to the American Dental Association. He is a life member of these organizations. He is currently a member of the Tidewater Dental Association, Viginia Dental Association, Bunting Periodontal Society (past President), Vedder Society of Prosthodontics, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. Over the years he learned and performed a variety of dental procedures from the simple to the more advanced. He has a great interest in prosthodontic, restorative, implant and esthetic dentistry but also enjoys other aspects of dental practice.

Dr. Cox and Patty sold their dental practice in July 2014 and moved to Virginia Beach to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He enjoys continuing to practice the dentistry he loves part-time in our office. He also enjoys spending time outside at the beach, biking or walking and especially time with his three grandchildren.



Shirley Yanello, RDH Shirley Yanello, RDH
Shirley has been with the practice since 2005. She spent 8 years in the Navy as a Dental Technician and then graduated from the Old Dominion School of Dental Hygiene School in 1994. Shirley is very gentle and loves to help educate patients about their dental health. In her spare time, Shirley enjoys camping and fishing with her husband.
Christina Atkinson, RDH Christina Atkinson, RDH
Christina joined the practice in May of 2010. She graduated from ODU School of Dental Hygiene in 2009 and earned a Masters of Science in Dental Hygiene in May 2012. She loves the outdoors and jogging.
Renee Hudson Renee Hudson
Renee is one of the friendly voices on the phone you are likely to hear when you call the office. She has been with the practice for 30 years and knows our appointment book inside-out. Renee has lived in Virginia Beach all of her life and loves to play slot machines.
Ruth Garcia Ruth Garcia
Ruth came to our practice from California in February of 2010 with 19 years of experience in other dental offices. Ruth is exceptionally good with children and is fluent in Spanish.

Ruth Garcia Jessica Jones
Jessica joined our practice as one of our Dental Assistants in February of 2014 after receiving her Certification in Dental Assisting from Park Place Health and Dental Clinic, Inc. the previous August. Jessica is always smiling and is excellent with our patients. She loves animals, especially her boisterous dog, Khloe, and would like to volunteer at the SPCA.
